Nov. 24th

Div. 9 has had some excellent 'Great Canadian' presentations these last two weeks from Josh, Lily, Sienna, Jerome, Teresa, Alexis, Vienna and Ben!  These are up in our hallway for everyone to look at so remember to take a look when you are at the school.

The students seem to really enjoy learning about Canada.   We have done BC and all 3 prairie provinces so far.  At Reader's Workshop we are currently identifying all the provinces, territories and their capital cities.  A huge thank you to Kamryn and Vienna's mom who have been helping out during Reader's Workshop.  Your help is so appreciated and needed!  Thanks also to Ben's mom and Roman's grandma for volunteering this week.

In Math we have started to take a closer look at place value.  When you see numbers ask your child how many hundreds, tens, ones and even thousands too to help review this concept.

Our field trip to Burnaby Village Museum  on Friday, December 15th was put on the portal on Monday.   Please sign up and thanks to those who already have.  The cost for this trip is $9.00.
Our skating field trip is on Tuesday, Dec. 19 at 1:00 it will be on the portal soon.  We will put this on the notice but please remember that for skating you should NOT pay online as we take the money directly to the skating rink.

SCHOLASTIC IS DUE ON MONDAY.  I extended it as many students thought?? they wanted to order.  Please don't feel you have to, I just want to give you the opportunity if you really did want to purchase.

Conferences are next week on Thursday and Friday.  It is an early dismissal 11:00 am on Thursday and there is no school on Friday (just conferences).  Please remember your child must be there for the conference.  The first 15 minutes they will show you their work and then the last 15 minutes is with myself and your child.  You should arrive the time you signed up for.  If you have any questions please just ask or email.

Hope you all have a great weekend.

Nov. 17th

Thanks to all the parents who joined us for Fort Langley.  We totally lucked out with the weather and the students seemed to enjoy it and learned about the fur trade.  Some of the highlights were dressing up in costumes, dancing, watching the blacksmith and panning for gold!

Jamie our Child Care Worker is coming to Div. 9 for 6 weeks to help the students review and learn 'The Zones of Regulation'.  We are focusing on self-regulation and how when we are in the different zones we have a variety of feelings and emotions.  Your child has brought home today (instead of their poetry books) what they have done so far.  Please have your child explain what the 'Green Zone' means - happy, calm, feeling okay, focused and ready to learn'.  They will be exploring their feelings and signs for each of the zones over the next few weeks.

Thanks to everyone who has already sent in earbuds.  If you haven't please do so as we have started using them during Reader's Workshop and in the computer lab.  Just a reminder that your child can access Raz Kids from home as a alternate source of reading.  JRR books were changed this week.

Scholastic book orders were handed out today, they are due back Thursday, Nov. 23rd. This is the last order before Christmas.  If you want to have any items for gifts please just indicate on the order form and then I will make sure to give it directly to a parent or hide it in a bag to keep it a secret for Xmas.

Nov 9th

Christmas cards and order forms went home yesterday, they must be returned by next Friday, Nov. 17th.  The students all worked very hard on these and were proud of their artwork.  Even if you are not ordering please return the art card so that we can add it to their memory books.

Our Great Canadian presentations are going very well so far!  Good work Jared, Alanna, Kamryn, Cody, Libby and Stephen(?) I am hoping that Steve did his he was a bit nervous yesterday.  We are all anxious to see the rest of Div. 9's presentations!  I am putting these up in the hall and then will be laminating them for your child's memory books.  If your child has a cue card or a piece of paper that they write their presentation on we will glue these onto the back of their poster after it has been displayed.

Please be sure to sign up for your child's student led conferences that will be taking place on Thursday, Nov. 30th in the afternoon and Friday, Dec. 1st all day.  The link is on the Useful Links on the front of the blog (this is difficult if you are using a phone - sorry).

Also Friday Nov. 17th is our field trip to Fort Langley.  Please send in the $3.00 asap.  Students should have an easy to eat snack in their pockets and dress for the weather.  Most of the field trip is outside! Thanks to everyone who has offered to volunteer and drive.

Just a reminder that there is no school this Friday (Pro D) and Monday for Remembrance Day.  Hope you all have a good long weekend.

Nov. 3rd

A big thank you to Alanna, Ava, Stephen, Ben, Troy, Sienna and Roman for brining in treats for our Halloween celebration.  Everyone looked great in their costumes!

This week we started new Explorations stations some of them with a Canada theme.  The picture below is a group that has cooperatively made a habitat for a variety of Canadian animals.

Our class has Raz Kids  an online reading program that is another great option for home reading (each child has access to books that are at their reading level).  I have the link on the front of the blog.  Your child should only ever go on their own name, their password is their first name with a capital. I will also be sending a sheet home for you to sign up (through email) which will allow you to get updates on your child's reading progress.

Our computer lab now has very few working ear buds left.   The district is no longer purchasing them so if possible could you please send in a pair of ear buds for the computer lab that would be your child's own set.  These are very useful for individualize learning programs, they allow students to focus better and having their own pair also reduces the spread of lice.  They can be from a dollar store but please send them in a ziplock bag marked with your child's name.

Steve and his mom found this very interesting website with interesting facts about Robert Munsch.  This is something you may want to read over with your child and discuss.  I was sadden to hear of his addiction and depression.  Such a talented man who obviously has many struggles too.

Please be sure to sign up on the portal for our field trip on Friday, Nov. 17th and send in the $3.00 asap.

Reminder that next Tuesday, Nov. 7th is Hot Lunch Day and next Friday, Nov. 10th is a pro d day (no school for students and then Monday, Nov. 13th is also off for Remembrance Day - so yes a 4 day weekend is coming up!
